tion and around 40 runners ran in the girls' race. Brentsville, the consistent power house in Cross Country, won the District tournament in both categories with a low score of 58 for the boys and 34 for the girls. The Madison Cross Country team was second and Strasburg was third for both the boys’ and girls’ races.
The school was well represented with seven boy and seven girl runners. "The Big Three" for RCHS were in the mix from start to finish. Phillip Thomas led the Panther boys with a time of 18:12 over the three mile plus course. This placed him 12th overall. Alyssa Berry and Rachel Sharp, both coming off leg injuries, battled throughout the entire race.
Sharp ran out of gas the last quarter mile and Berry, along with several other runners raced by her and dropped her out of the top 15 female finishers. Alyssa's time of 23:03 was good enough for 13th overall. Both Phillip and Alyssa qualified to move on with the top 15th finishers and they will represent Rappahannock County in the Regional competition to be held at the New Market Battlefield on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
