According to Sheriff Sherertz, the property owner called Oct. 28 to report that he had found the devices about two weeks earlier.
Sheriffs Office personnel arrived on the scene, and identified the devices, which includr ed two armed military practice hand grenades, two expended signal flares, and 22 blasting caps.
Sherertz then called the Virginia State Police, who sent a bomb technician to examine and dispose of the items, which if mishandled, could cause serious injury or death.
The explosives were placed in a hole on the property and detonated by the VSP bomb technician.
An investigation into the source of the explosives is continuing, according to Sherertz.
