Dr. Derek Vandrey of Rose Hill Veterinary Clinic and Ms. Tina Donahue from the Animal Warden's office were both very helpful in dealing with this situation, but the stories they have told me indicate that such attacks are not uncommon. Sheep, goats, and calves in Rappahannock have been mauled by dogs in recent months.
I know, as I drive along my road (South Poe's in Amissville), that plenty of dog owners let their dogs run loose. Perhaps they've just moved to the country from the suburbs and have the misguided idea that it's now safe to let their dogs roam. Nothing could be further from than the truth.
