Keeping 150 staff members actively engaged in organized learning for two full days takes tremendous effort, and we are grateful to all who participated. Our children will all benefit from the time that our teachers had to work collaboratively.
• RCES Principal Raye Tupper and most of our kindergarten through third grade teachers and aides spent portions of Thursday and Friday visiting Johnson Elementary School in Charlottesville where they observed reading classes in progress. Johnson is a school where over 70 percent of the students are considered "atrisk", yet, in spite of the odds, have dramatically raised their reading SOL scores. Our teachers had an opportunity for discussion and questions about curriculum, procedures and techniques before leaving to return to Rappahannock. It is always inspiring to learn from others who are experiencing such successes. We are grateful to the teachers and administrators of Johnson School for their generosity in hosting our staff.
