All are invited to; attend an introductory • workshop on centering] prayer, an approach to; contemplative prayer, on< Saturday, Nov. 11, 9:30] a.m. until 4 p.m. at Trinity; Episcopal Church in - Washington.
The workshop will be; led by the Rev. EugeneSutton, Canon for] Spiritual Formation at the; Washington National* Cathedral, and staff of] Contemplative Outreach' of Washington (COMW).
COMW is an ecumeni-] cal network of individuals' and parishes committed to - centering prayer and the] spiritual disciplines.; COMW has held retreats! at several churches and conferences across the country and at the] Washington National; Cathedral. The workshop* is being jointly sponsored! by Trinity Episcopal! Church and thej Washington Baptist Church.
"Prayer", according Uf Evagrius, one of the 4ti>« century monastics, "is the laying aside of thoughts." Centering prayer is a means of entering the interior silence of deep prayer, the letting go of thoughtsand the opening of mind and heart, body and feelings - our whole being - to God. The workshop will b<eC a practicum, teaching participants how to deepen* their life of prayer.
