An ad hoc county group calling itself the" I "Cellular Coalition" has been meeting on a weekly basis over the past few months to seek a better way to bring Sprint cellular service to Rappahannock County. The group supports the need for modem telecommunications for the county's various emergency services organizations, business and trade people, as well as the general populace of the county.
The Cellular Coalition's concern is with the tower sites proposed in the Sprint application. Better sites for antennas would provide better service, and not mar the landscape. The current set of seven proposed towers, most of them 199-feet high and located on some of the most scenic properties in the county, would:
a. violate the setting of historic buildings and historic areas in the county
b. adversely affect tourism: people visit the county for its scenic beauty
c. cause a loss in property values to owners of nearby land
d. provide cellular service primarily to com
