• Listen to someone’s story. If you lave grandparents, here's a perfect Lime gift for them, and the rest of your family, too. Get everyone together for an hour or two, put a cassette recorder on the table and ask Grandma to tell her story. You’ll be amazed how much you didn’t know about her life.

• Sing a song. Tired of rehashing the old Christmas card list every year? Try sending your voice. Tape yourself or your family singing a favorite holiday song and send out a musical Christmas card this year. If you're not a singer, that's even better. Your loved ones already know you're not Pavarotti, so don’t take yourself too seriously. Just have a good time with it, and if it brings a laugh, the time you spent on it will be priceless. D

Doing something for someone that costs you your precious time is a gift more valuable than money. It's not hightech or trendy, but it is universally appreciated, and it will be remembered long after Tekno the Robot Puppy goes up in a puff of smoke.
