but that won't dry up tears that were shed on Christmas Day because a particular toy didn't show up under the Christmas tree.)
Toys-R-Us regrouped in early 2000 and decided if they couldn’t beat successful online retailers at their game, then they had better join the best one. This year, Internet giant Amazon.com is handling distribution and customer service for Toys-R-Us, and prospects are much brighter.
Despite the problems, the Toys-RUs site accourtted for 18 percent of online toy sales last year. EToys.com was first (27 percent) and Amazon.com was second (25 percent), so it’s reasonable to expect that the Amazon-Toys-RUs partnership will be dominant this season.
Unfortunately, it appears the ToysR-Us policy of permitting returns to its stores of items purchased online has been discarded in favor of Amazon's policy requiring items to be shipped back to the online seller. Perhaps by the 2001 Christmas season they’ll rethink this approach, which serves other retailers such as gap.com very well.
