the Shenandoah National Park was the largest in recent history, covering some 24,200 acres.

Firefighters gathered from around the nation to support the efforts of local park and volunteer firefighters. A National Interagency Team from the states of Washington and Oregon flew in to coordinate the 880 firefighters that eventually suppressed the Shenandoah wildfires.

Virginia gave us a gracious reception. Local people offered their support and volunteer efforts, from the school children writing letters to the firefighters, to donations of cupcakes, water and other supplies to the cooperation of local fire departments and emergency services and more.
