I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to wait until the last minute to buy Christmas gifts. I want to be thinking about it at least a couple of months ahead so the season will be enjoyable rather than frantic.
Fortunately, my wife makes it pretty easy. She likes jewelry and she likes clothes, and she’s always appreciative of whatever I buy — even if she later returns it. We have an agreement: if you don’t like the gift, return it for something you do like. It’s better than having something expensive sitting around in a closet. But I haven’t missed too often in the last few years.
This year I’m thinking I’ll buy her a piece of jewelry. Or some clothes. It depends on what I find. One thing I do know is that I’m taking the girls with me. They always like that, and their help is always appreciated. (Though my daughter did stymie me when I wanted to buy her mom an outfit with a really short skirt a few years ago. She said it looked “too young” for a mother of three.)
My bride likes estate jewelry more than the modern stuff, and there are a couple of stores in the area that carry nice pieces.
