We have always had a “faith based initiative.” It is called religion. It is called church. It has worked for thousands of years, and it doesn’t need Congress or President Bush to improve it.
As a Christian, I believe in salvation through faith, and that “faith without works is dead.” That is our individual mandate. We don’t need federal government grants to do good. We just need more believers.
Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and unto God that which is God’s.”
The purposes of the state and of religion are different, but there are times when their goals may coincide. Then let them work together without financial interdependence, for
