Boy Scout Troop 36 attended summer camp at two locations during the week of July 14-21. Fifteen scouts decided to camp at the National Capital Area Councils Scout Reservation near Goshen, in Rockbridge County. Two Scouts preferred to camp at the local Shenandoah Area Council’s Camp Rock Enon near Gore. L After arriving, the Goshen Contingent quickly set up yamp, ate, participated in organizational meetings, retired the Flag and enjoyed a Campfire ceremony including Skits performed by the camp staff. *- Many of these skits Involved humorous references lo the camp’s method of delivering meals, the notorious fheater stack”. The remainder of the evening was spent developing individual merit 2>adge schedules and deciding ■QJi other troop goals. ” During the week the scouts ■attended merit badge class Ifessions in the areas of First 2Ud, Field Sports, Scoutcraft, lHandicraft, and Aquatics. The acouts stayed very busy, picking up and delivering their own breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and finishing up the last merit •badge session at 9 p.m. on a typical day. In order to accomplish their personal goals, the iSCouts learned to work together on patrol and troop responsibilities.
The scouts also participated in activities as a troop, swimming, rifle and archery shooting, gathering a truck load of kindling for the upcoming campfire ceremony, and making leather patrol emblems. On Thursday morning the troop rallied at 5 a.m., rowed across Lake Merriweather in canoes and
