Clyde Atkins

Sperryuille resident '■ Clyde “Mutt” Walton Atkins, 93, of Sperryville died Sunday, July 22 at Warrenton Overlook and Rehabilitation Center.

He was bom July 15, 1908 isi Sperryville to the late J&mes Walton Atkins and Maggie May Atkins.

Mr. Atkins started driving school buses for Rappahannock County Public School in 1929 and retired in 1973 as the Superintendent of Transportation. In the early 1940’s, he operated Atkins Store in Sperryville until his retirement from the school system. He was a member of Sperryville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include nine cousins, Julian Brown of Locust Grove, Shirley Kushner of Gaithersburg, Md., Barbara Poe of Warrenton, Strother Brown, Gid Clater and Cleo Dodson, all of Sperryville, Benny Brown of Winchester, Betty Overhulser of Palm Harbor, Fla. and P. Clater of Manassas.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Margaret Atkins and a brother, James Atkins, i Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 25 at Sperryville United Methodist Church with Pastor Merlin W. Shorb officiating. Interment followed in Sperryville Cemetery.

Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Willis

Gladys Yowell Willis, 101, of Culpeper died on July 18 at Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community.

She was bom on Sept. 22, 1899 in Rappahannock County. She was retired from nursing.

Her parents were the late Weldon Yowell and Mazie Leathers Yowell. Her husband was the late Edward Turpin Willis Sr.

Survivors include one son, Edward Turpin Willis Jr. of Culpeper; a daughter, Kajtherine W. Ballard of Morrison, 111.; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted on Saturday, July 21 at Culpeper Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. L. Starke Jones officiating.
