In a front page photo, Miss Bonnie Brown, Queen of the Sperryville Fire Department carnival is crowned by Miss Shirley Brown, who was Queen the year before.
The Rappahannock Garden Club held its regular monthly meeting at the Episcopal Parish Hall on July 19. Mrs. C.B. Johnson was hostess. Mrs. H.B. Winfrey, program chairman, introduced Mr. W.H. Lyne, County Agent, who spoke on planning and zoning projects in Rappahannock County. His remarks were illustrated by colored movies and charts.
The County 4-H Clubs held their annual picnic Wednesday at Woodland Park in Luray. Ten vehicles carrying about 90 club members . left Washington for the day’s outing. Clubs from Washington, Flint Hill, Castleton, Sperryville, Forest Grove and Chester Gap were represented with Chester Gap having the largest representation.

Mattie Ball Fletcher has been cooking and canning over more than six decades. Almost her entire yard in Little Washington is a garden, divided by a hedge into places for vegetables and places for flower. Mrs. Fletcher was featured in a photo by her backyard well which is how she gets water to give her plants a drink. Quite a few local residents were featured in photos in this issue with produce.
