Williams did not comment on his course of defense, but Lynn believes one part of the process will be asking for a competency hearing to determine Bailey’s level of mental ability.
A co-counsel will be appointed by the court in the near future.
“This has been a very satisfying day,” said Capt. C. Fred Pfeiff of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint investigation with Warrenton Police during 4he search for Pruitt, then took th&4ead on the case after her bodyfaas found outside of town limits. '
“The investigation continues and we’re hoping to finish collecting evidence soon,” Pfeiff said.
Warrenton Police Det. James Hartman, who headed the initial investigation, called the effort a fine display of team work.
“We’ve never worked better together than we did on this case,” Hartman said. “Sometimes, we’ll look back on a case and think we might have done something differently. That’s not so on this one. From the onset, it was a very intense effort and a great display of team work.”
Pruitt’s family declined comment on the indictments.
