Maurice D. Bailey of Warrenton was indicted Monday by a Fauquier County Grand Jury of capital murder, robbery and car-jacking in connection with the murder of Jessica Ann Pruitt of Castleton.
The Rappahannock County woman was last seen Friday, June 15 as she left her place of work in Warrenton, in Bailey’s company. Although her abandoned car was found the following Sunday in a cul-de-sac in the residential section of Old Ibwn, the 19-year-old’s whereabouts were not then known.
It wasn’t until 15 days later, on June 30, that a land owner near Hume came upon remains that were later identified as Pruitt’s.
An autopsy afterward determined that the young woman died of trauma to the upper body.
Bailey’s mother sat in the balcony above the courtroom — also expressionless — as Fauquier County Commonwealth Attorney Jonathan Lynn and defense attorney Mark Williams discussed the case.
Williams, who had been appointed by the court to represent Bailey on a charge of unauthorized use of Pruitt’s vehicle filed by Warrenton Police at the time of his arrest, has been retained to represent
