Hager farewell
RICHMOND The state’s senators sent Lt. Gov. John H. Hager off with a variety of emotional speeches, awards and honors Friday that included giving him a replica of the president’s chair and a flag that has flown over the ■ Virginia Capitol. They also I plan to have a portrait of him I placed in the Senate chambers.
; “One could call (today) melancholy,” Sen. Said John H. Chichester (R-Fredericksburg), “because it is the last day that this lieutenant governor will serve this body.”
Senators on both sides of the aisle praised Hager for his work and leadership.
“You’ve presided in an extremely fair manner ...” said Sen. Richard Saslaw (DSpringfield). “I consider you a good friend.”
Democrat Tim Kaine of Richmond will lead the Senate beginning Jan. 12, while Hager begins his service as the assistant to the governor for commonwealth preparedness during Gov. Mark Warner’s administration.
