The winter film season opens Friday, Jan. 18 with one you’ve been asking for and we’ve been trying to schedule for a long, long time. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the first film of the winter 2002 season and a must see.
The other outstanding selections have been chosen for their appeal to a wide audience-some you have requested.
Here are the first six films for 2002:
• Jan. 18: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (PG 13, 119 minutes) Director Ang Lee (“Sense and Sensibility”) focuses his talents on the Hong Kong martial arts films he loved as a youth and brings us Crouching Tiger, the most successful foreign language film of all time.
Set during the Ching Dynasty, Tiger concerns a Giang Hu warrior who seeks revenge for the death of his master at the hands of a notorious female assassin. Academy Award winner in 2001 for Best Foreign Film.
• Feb. 1: Bandits (PG 13, 122 minutes) In this comic caper, bank robbers Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton both become romantically entangled with mixed-up housewife Cate Blanchett. Willis, a romantic
