For many of us, the fascination with white-tailed deer lies in their antlers.
While I find these creatures to be very interesting in general, I find it absolutely fascinating that a whitetailed deer will grow and then shed very large and elaborate ornamental antlers every year.
White-tailed deer are just one member of a large family, called Cervidae.
All of these deer have several things in common, antlers that are grown and then shed in a single year. There is a difference between horns and antlers, horns are permanent and are not shed each year, and antlers are disposable.
