Even though some foods damage our cells and promote cancer, other foods can protect them or even reverse the damage before a tumor has a chance to develop. Foods that are known to protect us against cancer have fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and phytochemicals. which are found in plant foods such as fruits, vegetables. and whole grains. Food promoters of cancer are excess fat in food, cured foods, char grilled meats and Fish, pickled foods and excess alcohol.
Virginia Cooperative Extension has developed a learn-at-home educational newsletter series called “C/O Your Health". It focuses on encouraging good eating practices to decrease the risk of cancer. Six issues highlight information related to promoters and protectors of cancer.
