New support group to begin

A new support group for Healthy Living will begin weekly Tuesday meetings on Jan. 22. The classes will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office on Gay Street in Washington.

In addition to interactive support and motivation, the group will offer nutritional information, guest speakers, recipe exchange, cooking lessons and exercise groups. For information call Anita Embar at 675-2311, days or Beverly Atkins at 6753843, evenings. The program is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office.

Ragged Mountain activity

The following activity has been scheduled for the community through Ragged Mountain Resource Center. For additional information call Director Hunt Harris at 987-3366.

• Sunday, Jan. 27, Moonlight Hike of Old Rag Mountain, meet at upper parking lot for Old Rag on Nethers side (off Route. 231 and Route.600) between 6:30-7 p.m. Bring layerable clothing, food and water and a backup headlamp or flashlight if cloudy.

Karate classes underway

Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate classes are currently underway and will be held each Wednesday at Ki Theater on Gay Street in Washington. Spring registrations accepted

The Rappahannock Soccer League is currently accepting 2002 spring soccer registrations. They are available at the Rappahannock Library and the Washington Post Office Kiosk.

Fees are $35 for first player and $20 for each additional family member. Some scholarships available. Volunteers are needed for coaching and an adult referee. Call the Registrar, Laura Dodd at 547-2968 for more information. The final day to register is Feb. 15, 2002.

Rapidtran will not operate

Rapidtran transportation services will not operate on Friday, Jan. 18 in observance of Lee-Jackson Day or on Monday, Jan. 21 in. observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Rapidtran is a program of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board.

Clinic will be open Jan 16

The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open Wednesday, Jan 16 and again on Jan. 30.
