In Virginia, the Department of Health, on March 29, 2001, expanded a fishing advisory for mercury contamination in the South River, Shenandoah River, South Fork Shenandoah River, and North Fork Shenandoah River. Although the source is from mercuryreleased between 1929 and 1950 by an old Dupont plant on the South River in Waynesboro it shows howr long mercury contamination lasts. Half a century later, it is still a problem.
