Long View Gallery on Historic Main Street in Sperryville is showcasing the extraordinary talents of local artists with a series of exhibits throughout the fall season.
A two-person show, “2 Views of the Landscape” features the impressionist oil landscapes of William H. Whiting and the landscape inspired abstract paintings of Don Black. The exhibit will hang from Aug. 22 through Sept. 16. There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.
A very special show of Robin Purnell’s new landscape paintings will hang from Sept. 19 through Oct. 7. Widely known for her sensitive and evocative portraits, Purnell has turned to the lovely rolling hills of the Blue Ridge to satisfy her tremendous urge to paint the land where we live. There will be a reception for Purnell on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Antonia Walker will show her lyrical paintings of France, Italy and the Virginia countryside from Oct. 10 through Oct. 30. Using light, color and space, Walker creates gentle impressionist landscapes suffused with a dreamlike quality. On Saturday, Oct. 12, there will be a “Meet the Artist” reception from 4 to 7 p.m.
David Williams, one of the area’s most exciting young impressionist painters will exhibit his newest paintings in a show titled “Alla Prima” from Oct. 31 through Nov. 25. Williams paints exciting and energetic local landscapes, city scenes, florals and still lifes that capture the essence of the subject while encouraging the viewer’s experiences and emotions to create a highly personalized relationship with the art. There will be a reception for Williams on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.
