Alphaeus Cannon was honored for his 40 years of service as a director of the Rappahannock National Bank at a surprise ceremony at the bank on July 24.
At the end of the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors, Elisabeth Jones, Chairman of the Board of Directors, presented Mr. Cannon with a handsome gold watch and a set of uncirculated coins minted in 1962, the year Mr. Cannon first began his service to the bank.
When asked about his years on the Board, Mr. Cannon said, “I loved every minute of it.” He allowed as how he had missed only two meetings in all those years. “I was in the hospital for one and sick at home for the other.”
Michael Leake, the bank’s CEO, said Mr Cannon always had the best interests of the community and the bank at heart. His wealth of experience and the fact that he was born and raised in the county made him invaluable as a member of the Board. Mr. Leake admitted he found it easy to talk in glowing terms about this honored member of the Board.
