Organization is everything when it comes to a successful yard sale. Put oodles of time into organizing your “business” and let the sale run itself.
Have plenty of change on hand. Go to the bank ahead of time and get some rolls of coins and plenty of one dollar bills.
Have a calculator handy to quickly total items. You should also have a pad of paper and pen. Use a fanny pack to carry these items and your cash with you. This will allow you to mingle with your customers and tidy up tables rather than have to sit on guard at a cash drawer.
Also, whenever you take money from a customer, always remember to take their cash and set it aside. Then make change from your cash reserve while leaving the customer’s money visible. This will eliminate the chance of someone saying you were given a twenty dollar bill, when you were really given a ten dollar bill.
