Mr. Lander said that the County's “ruling bodies have engaged only one eye and one ear when reading and listening to their constituent’s concerns,” and he further suggested that approvals such as the Rappahannock Commons constituted a carte blanche for development. He also called for the Board to establish a County Architectural Review Board to develop and enforce guidelines for commercial architecture.
John Kiser followed Mr. Lander as a public commenter, and he asked that each Supervisor state what he “thinks the County will look like in twenty years, because on that basis I’m going to vote for you.” He expressed concern about the promotion and growth of Rappahannock County and said that "the only way to keep a place beautiful is to keep it a secret—people are the ultimate form of pollution.”
