years of painting experience, Whiting considers himself primarily self-taught. He has exhibited his work widely throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and is frequently one of the most successful artists at major area shows including “Art at the Mill” in Millwood and the Aldie Mill Show.
Don Black earned his MFA at Ohio University and entered a career in music. He was the conductor of the symphony orchestra and is a Professor of Music at Shenandoah University in Winchester as well as a professional jazz clarinetist. He began painting in watercolor with realistic landscapes but a fascination with the shapes, patterns and light found in nature caused his paintings to become more abstract through the years.
Now his focus is on abstract formal design combined with a sensibility for mood and light in a style that utilizes the flowing qualities of watercolors and acrylics. Black’s work has been exhibited widely in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC.
