The Rappahannock Lions have recently been able to celebrate a successful year of service to our community. It was one of the best! We want to thank our loyal friends and neighbors for all the generous support you’ve been giving to our activities.
Each summer the Lions Club experiences a “changing of the guard" when some officers are “retired" and others are “promoted" to new positions. There always seems to be a lot for us to do and we manage to keep very busy doing it.
The first official meeting of the new year (2002/2003) was a memorable surprise. The regular dinner meeting location was closed for a well deserved vacation so our charter member Carson Johnson graciously offered the Lions his beautiful rustic retreat, “Bittersweet” in Sperryville for a steak cookout on a rare rainy evening. The Carson lodge has a perfect long porch that accommodated all the members present. The Lions brought the food and grilled the steaks to order. Our good wives got the night off.
The new president, Yogi Bear, assumed command like a veteran and the very relieved past president, Gary Settle, seemed happy to be one of the three expert chefs.
The incoming management team is a good mixture of seasoned “veterans” and a few “rookies”, to keep our average age from becoming too “advanced”. We’re proud to say that they sing very well together. We wish them every success.
