The Rappahannock County School Board has begun the process of finding a permanent replacement for Dr. David Gangel, who resigned in June after having served for fifteen years as the County's Superintendent of Schools. The search process has been designed following recommendations of the Virginia School Boards Association i VS BA) that were forwarded at a meeting on July 29, and the VSBA will he assisting in the search process.
At the August meeting of the School Board. Chairman Wesley Mills provided a synopsis and milestones of the process, and the meeting package included a copy of a survey of desired qualifications for the new superintendent. The School Board encourages all Rappahannock County residents, including students. to complete the survey and to attend a meeting on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium to discuss the qualifications of the ideal superintendent.
Survey forms are available at the School Board Office, the County Library. Hacklev's Store. 211 Quicke Mart, the Sperryville Corner Store, Shaw's Service Center, the Boston Store, Laurel Mill's Store, Settles Store, Chester Gap Store, and the Flint Hill Post Office.
In his synopsis Mr. Mills noted that, bv law, the School Board has 180 days to announce the person selected, and he projected a search completion date of Dec. 31. 2002. With regard to a search committee, he said that "Much discussion has already occurred concerning the composition of this committee," and he added that the School Board will adopt the VSBA recommendation that the School Board serve as that committee.
He provided the following milestones: Aug. 27 to complete qualifications survey forms and for a public meeting to discuss superintendent qualifications; a draft application form based on survey and meeting results by Sept. 6; a School Board vote on the final application at their Sept. 10 meeting; applications mailed out on Sept. 11; receipt of applications from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15;
66.5%
