pie in twenty years. He asked if we can say that no one else can come to Rappahannock, and pointed to the Comprehensive Plan that suggests that growth be directed to the Towns and in clusters in order to preserve open spaces.
Chairman Pete Estes pointed out that has become increasingly easy over the years to tell when you get into Rappahannock because of the relatively low rate of growth compared to adjoining counties. That is due, he said, to our Zoning Ordinance.
He said that he is in favor of tourism because it provides jobs and thus “gives local families a better quality of life.” “I think we owe it to all citizens—so that everybody gets some enjoyment out of the County,” he added. Mr. Estes said that he did not think that the County “would grow that much” because of the inability of a developer to build a large tract. “He wants to build 200 houses, not two,” Mr. Estes explained.
Mr. Estes’ concluded by saying, “In my mind, Rappahannock is not an accident ... a lot of thought went into it.”
