Mr. Mills, reporting for the Government and Community Committee, said that discussions were ongoing with the Board of Supervisors on the issue of joint meetings, and that the Board of Supervisors had suggested that two members of each body be selected for such meetings.
Helen Williams reported that Headwaters had received 130 reservations (70 seats remain) for this years' Taste of Rappahannock, and that work was ongoing on a second dining-related fundraiser, "International Day." She also said that the Composite Index Study draft report has been completed, and that a meeting was scheduled for Aug. 14 to review the draft. The final report is due on Sept. 1.
Other activities
• During the Public Comments portion of the meeting Kathryn Treanor said that she was "thrilled" with new high school principal Roger Mello. Mr. Mills said that he felt the same about Principal Mello.
• Student Representative and rising senior Henry Robertson attended his first School Board meeting to introduce himself to the Board and to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
• Mr. Warner advised that, due to insufficient numbers of snow days this past year, Rappahannock County will not qualify for the waiver, in the 2003-2004 school year, that permits it to start school before Labor Day.
• Mr. Mills and Mrs. Williams both praised the Greve School Council Leadership Conference for its effectiveness.
