Everyone was all smiles last week when Rappahannock Lions Club President Phil Butten presented Panther Athletic League President Henry Hudson a check for $300, the Lions initial contribution to the fund raising drive for a track at RCHS. Track coaches Ann Spieker and Karl Studt along with team members Lisa Jones, Lynnell Prudhum and Rhonda Wiley were on hand for the occasion.
William F. Bear Jr. from Washington is attending a week-long training course for Boy Scout leaders from Aug. 13-20 at Camp Rock Enon near Gore. The course called “Wood Badge” teaches the Scout program by participation and emphasizes specific leadership techniques and management skills.

It has been an unusual growing season; it’s hard to find a farmer to complain about the weather. For most Rappahannock farmers this season has been very good for growing crops. With cooler than average temperatures and higher than average rainfall, pastures are green, corn is growing very well and most fruits are doing well.
Tommy Williams, Rappahannock County’s Farm Extension Agent for the last four years, leaves this week to begin his new job working with Federal Insecticide Farmicide Rodenticide Act on Aug. 17. Mr. Williams was the eighth agent since the inception of the Farm Extension in Rappahannock in 1924.
