Most obvious is the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services, whose job it is all year-round to assist needy families.
Concerned mainly with providing life’s necessities, which at this time includes monetary donations, food and firewood.

Since giving is a lesson best learned at an early age, it is encouraging that the Rappahannock County Elementary School has instituted a Christmas food basket drive.
Working from a list provided by the school, the children can gather and give the items the recipients really need.
The drive runs through Dec. 18.
This Saturday will see the return of the annual “Shop with a Deputy” program, organized by Capt. Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office.
Each child can purchase $100 worth of gifts.
