The goods
The most recognizable icon on the products made in the Braeland Studio is Otis the French rabbit. Naturally, there is a story behind this.
“He was developed in 1992,” Huber said. “He’s named after our best friend, who represented good things. He knew how to treat women in an old-fashioned way.”
Otis the rabbit, according to the story, is a French country rabbit who lived in a garden in St. Remy de Provence. He is a connoisseur of good food and gardening, and he became a world traveler, Finally ending up in a wonderfully mystical place known as Braeland.
Now Otis is found on almost everything.
“He’s become the most famous rabbit in France because he represents something that makes people feel good,” Huber said.
“I was obviously influenced by Beatrix Potter,” she continued, “and a lot of primitive art, a lot of Haitian art ... the rich colors of the Caribbean.”
Braeland Studio often does limited edition items, 10 of something expensive, 100 of something else.
