The winter sports season has begun in earnest, with all winter teams in action to this point except varsity boys' basketball.
The varsity hoys’ team had their appearance in the Highland Invitational Tournament canceled as a result of the snow storm last week.
The Junior Panther Boys’ Basketball team split its first two contests, defeating Warrenton Middle School 6451 in overtime, but dropping a 40-28 decision to Cedar Lee Middle School.
Irving Smith hit a threepoint basket at the buzzer against Warrenton to send the game into overtime, and the Junior Panthers outscored Warrenton 14-1 in overtime to get the win. Irving had 27 points to pace the Panthers, and Shawn Porter chipped in 22 points to help the Panthers’ cause.
