In September 1901, Dr. Amiss conveyed to Harry Smoot a 42-foot by 84-foot lot on Main Street. This new lot was the north-east comer of the property owned by Dr. Amiss, the site of his home (now housing the Long View Gallery, next door to the church/bookshop).
This lot was quickly conveyed by Mr. Smoot for $1 to the new trustees of Emmanuel Episcopal Church—Dr. Amiss, P.H. O’Bannon, and James H. Fletcher.
