The decision Allowing a variance for Christopher Goodine’s jewelry shop on Main Street at the Washington Tbwn Council meeting earlier this month seems to have been only the beginning of the controversy surrounding its construction.
Debate continued at Monday evening’s monthly Town Planning Commission meeting.
Barbara Stockton, who recently replaced Jean Goodine as chairman of the commission, was “appalled” by the Goodines’’ lack of regard for the process, and said, “Sitting on the board with one of the people involved, I feel it truly embarrassing. I think it just sets a terrible precedent.”
Stockton hopes to find a way to streamline town ordinances to avoid repeating such misunderstanding. “We don’t need to go through this again” she said.
But before this could be done, citizens vented their concerns about the property.
