stones picked up in the fields by the Dickeys while the home was being built, holds place of honor in both the living room and eating area. The kitchen, recently redone, is filled with light. Rappahannock craftsmen Gene Lyman and Bob Haase built the original cabinets and refitted them as the room was updated.
Just at the end of Hinson’s Ford Rood, Mossie Lane goes off to the left. There, the first house is “The Deep Woods,” home of Bud and Doris Rowzie, and whenever possible, their five children and 13 grandchildren. The large home is also used for church gatherings and retreats for small groups, and all who visit enjoy the home, pond, tennis courts, patios, riverside fishing and all that 53 acres in Rappahannock County can offer.
Outside the home is cradled by beautiful gardens, vine covered pillars, a fountain, mature dogwood and weeping cherry and garden statuary. Inside the house charm and graciousness are the key, with brick fireplaces, tasteful drapery and furnishings and decorator touches in every room. There is a tiny prayer room, with bookcase-covered walls, religious art and family pictures which offer an atmosphere conducive to quiet thought and contemplation.
The dried flower arrangers will soon be at work crafting special displays for all three houses, displays that compliment the colors, style, and preferences of the homeowners.
