By a vote of 4-1, the Board of Supervisors approved a local health department at the meeting Wednesday, when five members were present, Henry Wood being the one absent member.
The sum now available for a county health nurse if $1,500. When the department begins work, there will be a full time nurse, a parttime sanitation officer, service of a doctor whenever needed and a full-time clerk to work in an office located in the county.

As things stand now between the courts and Rappahannock’s current zoning and subdivision ordinances, the county doesn’t appear to stand much chance in controlling or limiting growth, according to planning engineer Robert Plavnick.
Plavnick met with members of the Rappahannock Planning Commission at the courthouse to discuss work on a comprehensive plan that the county must adopt by 1980.
