Last year 933 birds, 45 horses and 180 mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile virus in Virginia.
The first West Nile virus positive crow was found in the Tbwn of Washington on July 15, according to Shepherd. The second one was found near Five Forks.
Asked to give a more precise location where the crows were found and on whose property, Shepherd said he is bound by new regulations this year that forbid him to identify the persons involved or names of the properties.
The county Health Department continues to track recently deceased crows to see if they carry the virus, said Shepherd. He said that if a bird is dead more than a few hours in this heat, the virus won't survive.
County residents can prevent mosquitoes from breeding by turning over or removing containers around the home where water collects, such as old tires, potted plant trays, buckets and toys. They also should clean
