With talk going around of the possibility of moving one or several of the government agencies to outlying sections, rather than keeping them all in Washington, D.C., the county seat of Rappahannock has requested that the Town of Washington, Virginia be approved as a location for a proposed transfer of certain government agencies.
Following is a copy of a letter sent to Stuart W. Symington, chairman of the National Security Research Board in Washington, D. C. by the mayor-elect and ladies of the council:
“The newly elected council of the Town of Washington Va., who take office Sept. 1. 1050 hereby request approval on designation of the Tfovn of Washington as a location for the proposed transfer of certain governmental agency or agencies.
“. . .this municipality is located on Route 211 approximately 65 miles west of Washington, D. C., with ample available land, water supply and electricity to accommodate such a venture.”
