Quivering light dances through the leaves bouncing off the river, the setting sun’s reprieve. Shimmers on the boards of the ceiling of the porch, and turns the leaves to ruby red that shine like a torch! The heavy air that’s laden with the aroma of the sea from the bottom of the riverbed, bared by a fast tide’s lee. Gulls and Egret’s grasping beaks pick the bottom’s rocks; geese, and gulls together, meal hunting, with the flock. Clouds of gnats and June bugs and other wings a’flitter gather over the river and set the air a’glitter. The water still and lying low, after racing to the sound. What’s left so lazy lying still, no dancing diamonds bound. Long shadows lie within the lawn, the grass so short and sweet await dusk and dew and nighttime’s songs, and critter’s little feet. Those precious moments, like as now, before the sun bids adieu are bittersweet and lovely, the gift of a whole day’s due.
