Thomas Lewis to speak
Thomas A. Lewis, Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates seat representing Rappahannock County will be a guest again at the August meeting of the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at the Rappahannock County Library at 7:30 p.m. Lewis is looking forward to continued conversations on Rappahannock issues and invites all to join in. Conservation meeting
The Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District, which includes Rappahannock County, will hold its monthly Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Greene County Extension Office in Standardsville.Va.
Channeling weekends
The Rappahannock Healing Arts Center will hold classes in learning how to channel on Friday, Aug. 1 from 7 to 10 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $275. Advanced channeling classes will be held Friday, Aug. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $225.
Celebration at Cooter’s
Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane, Deputy Enos Strate and Deputy Cletus Hogg will be among the cast members appearing at this year’s Dukesfest at Cooter's Place in Sperryville from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10. The annual gathering of “Dukes of Hazzard” fans will also feature a stunt driving performance, dozens of General Lees and live music. Also appearing will be Don Pedro Colley, who was Sheriff Little of neighboring Chickasaw County. “Cooter” himself, Ben Jones, the former Congressman who played the loyal sidekick mechanic for Bo and Luke Duke, will host the entire event.
Baseball registration
Babe Ruth Fall Baseball registration will be held at Stuart Field on the following dates: July 31 from 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Family reunion

Fiberarts workshop to open
Misty Mountain Farm will open its new Fiberarts Workshop in Amissville on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Classes will be held throughout August in weaving, hand-spinning, felting and knitting. There will be a Fiber Camp for children with visits with the farm's sheep, angora goats and llamas. The workshop will have hand-dyed yarns for weavers and knitters as well as hand-spun and handwoven items available. For more information, call 937-4707.
Culpeper soccer course
The Culpeper Soccer Association is holding a “F” certificate course on Aug. 1-2 at St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Culpeper. This will be a U-8-U-10 module. Interested individuals may contact Barb Phelps at 825-6795 to register. The cost of the course is $15.00 per person.
Summer theatre camp
There is still time to register for the Rainbow Bridge Youth Theatre Summer Performing Arts Camp in Washington with Kitty Keller Keyser, Jean Elizabeth, Dontez Harris and Aron Weisgerber. The camp runs the week of Aug. 8 MondayFriday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 6-8, 9-12 and teens working in three groups and performing together. They will produce “The Chumash Story: A Rainbow Bridge Legend." The camp features theatre games, character building, scene study, stagecraft, creative movement, music percussion, wind and string instruments and nature outings.
