Washington resident Gary Shwartz agreed that it was time to move on to solutions though, and said, “This is a good example of the problem but I don’t know that we should start building stocks in town or get the lynching tree out.”
Among the means proposed to improve the process was the idea of a checklist which would be presented whenever a permit was attained to let builders know what they needed to do, and in what order it should be done.
Mitchell felt that this was not an adequate solution. She said, “We’re talking about county issues. These are county offices and they are out of our venue as a town government.”
Stockton responded harshly saying, “That argument wouldn’t get you a driver’s license in the state of Virginia. We are the county seat. These folks didn’t apply for the permit so it doesn’t matter what checklist you used, they just did what they wanted.”
