Expanding on how he approaches the complex duties of his office, Sherertz said, “Every law enforcement officer on our team is trained to be problem solvers, whether it is law enforcement, caring for inmates, serving ‘papers,’ security at the courthouse, or responding to emergency calls All are routine duties of the Sheriff’s Department.”
Sherertz returned several times to the theme of leadership, teamwork and problem-solving by adding. “You have to get the deputies to buy into this idea, how important it is to the overall success of the department. We’re a very proud family and I am very proud of my deputies.”
Citing former New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani as a leader he admires, Sherertz suggested, “A leader is that person who possesses a vision and an ability to inspire others to embrace ideas, and then together find ways to bring these ideas to a working reality.”
