“It’s time to come to the hot seat,” said Cassese as she called up one pair at a time.
“I want a soda pop,” signed Jessica Haley.
“Over there near the school,” answered her partner, Brandon Thomas, who has also taken three years of Spanish.
“I hope to take signing in college as well,” said Thomas, who sees himself involved in politics, perhaps majoring in public administration. “It (sign language) would come in very handy.”
Sophomore Clayton Ashby, who wears a hearing aid, is delighted with the school's new offering.
“I’m glad that they have this class,” said Ashby, who has been deaf since he was 16 months old, when he had meningitis.
“I want an advanced diploma and it's hard for a deaf person to hear the subtleties of Spanish or French," said Ashby, who enjoys a design computer class and playing the drums in the school’s jazz band.
