For most of his career, Larry Sherertz was a patrolman in Fairfax County. He came to Rappahannock as an criminal investigator, with little or no training or experience in management and budget. The results speak for themselves. We are now spending more and faster than ever before.
During this same period of time, Steve Butler rose from a street cop walking a beat in the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to the rank of Lieutenant in the U. S. Secret Service, which selects only the best of the best of law enforcement personnel throughout the country.
After 20 years in the Secret Service and significant promotions in rank, he retired with distinction and with accolades from President Ronald Reagan for his law enforcement and senior management skills.
Steve Butler has the kind of experience in personnel and financial management and administration Rappahannock obviously needs. He has law enforcement experience in the U.S. Secret Service protecting the public, the President, diplomats and other high-ranking government officials. He has long-term roots in the community and has spent the last four months knocking on doors getting to know local residents and listening to their concerns.
The voters of Rappahannock County will have to decide on Election Day which person has the better judgment, fiscal discipline and experience to be in charge of a budget that now exceeds one million dollars per year. It is time for a change.
