Rappahannock County Administrator John McCarthy said the Board of Supervisors currently has two offers for the purchase of the 31-acre Aileen property in Flint Hill that the county purchased in 1999 for $150,000.
“There’s not a great deal I can reveal at this point,” McCarthy said in an interview. “Two prospective purchasers have made offers.”
McCarthy said the final offers are due by Oct. 29 and will be considered at the Nov. 1 Board of Supervisors’ meeting.
McCarthy did say that the potential buyer reported in March of this year to be interested in building housing for the elderly is not one of the two.
“Senior housing is definitely still an important issue in Rappahannock,” McCarthy said. “But that offer has gone by the wayside.”
The Aileen clothing factory filed for bankruptcy in 1994 and closed down in October of that year, after 31 years of operation.
