Direct election of the president by the people offers several advantages: It would uphold the principle of “one person, one vote” rather than disenfranchising minority party voters in “safe” states; remove the disincentive to vote in “safe” states; encourage candidates to campaign nationwide rather than take “safe” states for granted; and minimize Red/Blue regional divisiveness.
