Motorcycle run
The first annual Cystic Fibrosis Benefit Motorcycle Poker Run will be held Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. All proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Run begins at Loudoun Motorsports in Leesburg and ends in Sperryville at Hearthstone School. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the first bike out at 10 a.m.. and the last bike out at noon. Fall festival
Wakefield Country Day School's Fail Homecoming Festival will take place Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the school grounds at 1059 Zachary Taylor Highway in Flint Hill. There will be food, games, and activities for all ages, including "space" ice cream, a dunking booth, a pib2ata challenge, and a cake walk. The activities will also include a used book sale, and a WCDS community yard sale.
Community drum circle
All are invited to join in creating spontaneous rhythm and music on Sunday. Oct. 17 from 4-6 p.m. at the Belle Meade Schoolhouse in Sperryville. No experience necessary. There will be instruments to share, or bring your own. Suggested donation is $5-10, and children are free. For more information, call 987-8417.
Civil War meeting
Author and Culpeper resident Virginia Morton will be guest speaker Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable meeting at the Rappahannock library. It is open to members and non-members who share an interest in history and the Civil War. Morton's talk will be on "John Pelham and Robert Beckham: Common Destinies." Michaelangelo s work
The paintings of the Sistine Chapel. Michaelangelo's most famous achievement, will be the subject of a lecture with slides, beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Hearthstone School. The lecture is presented by David Lowe, British art historian and Goethean scholar. Lowe will focus on the contrasting figures of the Sybils and Prophets, and will include an overview of Michaelangelo's life and work.
